This course is for people with some writing experience. It is NOT suitable for beginners.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be an invaluable assistant with your writing. But it can also be problematic. This course aims to help you understand what AI is, show you how you can use it effectively for your writing and avoid the pitfalls that arise with its use.
The Course
With this course you have one module to work through which gives you an overview of AI and how to use it.
Exercises And Assignments
There are three writing assignments for you to complete. This is where the real value in this course lies. Through the assignments you will start to use AI writing tools, explore how you can collaborate with them and think about their limits and the ethics involved. You will submit your work to your tutor, Andy Ellis, who will give you feedback on your work and further instruction in light of what you have presented.

This course has been created with the help of AI tools and a full statement of how these were used is available with your course materials.

By the end of the course, you should have gained the skills to use AI tools with confidence. You'll also have an understanding of the ethical challenges involved.

Course Tutor
Andy Ellis
Andy obtained a degree in journalism in 1986 and started working with a local newspaper in the same year. He progressed to a regional newspaper and later, worked for a variety of magazines, based in London.
Around 1991 he decided to try life as a freelance writer. Since then he has written thousands of magazine and newspaper articles; his work is managed by two different agencies; one in the USA and one based in Sweden, for mainland Europe. His main focus now is business writing, especially for charities, where he helps them with their policies and procedures, strategies, annual reports, press releases and with writing tenders for contracts.
Andy has been a tutor with The Writers Bureau since 1995 and over the years he has helped thousands of students develop their writing skills.

As well as being manageable, the reading material pointed out how widespread AI really is, and that all of us should be aware of its implications and functions and not be afraid of it. The material makes it clear that AI is a tool which is able to speed up searches or bring up ideas or give a direction, but not to take over the task of creative writing. Humans still have a brain to do this. The course docent, Mr. Ellis, is very thorough in his feedback, giving more than expected, and for me, he has helped me to focus. Thank you.

2. Course Cancellation: If you wish to cancel your course you must let us know within 7-days of enrolling on your course for a full refund providing you have not submitted an assignment. Submission of an assignment commits you to the course. Course cancellations after the initial trial period are at the discretion of Esther Chilton The Writers Bureau and will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.
3. Time Limit: This agreement lasts for six months. If you wish to extend your studies beyond this time, an extra charge will be made for administration, assessment of assignments, access to the online course materials and community.
