Let's Write
A place to develop your writing craft with constructive feedback from your writing peers.
Under the watchful eye of WB’s writing tutor, Esther Chilton, members will have the chance to explore and develop their writing skills. It will be a place to kick-start and develop your writing with constructive feedback from your writing peers.
Every month a prompt will be provided for you to respond to. A space will be available on the website for you to share your work and receive constructive feedback from your fellow writers. You will also be able to read the contributions of other members and give feedback. Esther will look at the work in preparation for the monthly Zoom meeting to discuss members' responses to the prompt and feedback given.
Responses to the prompt could be a short story, non-fiction piece, a script, or poetry (if you are specifically interested in poetry check out WB's Poetry Club as well).
Monthly Timetable:
Start of each month: The prompt will appear in the Let's Write area on our website. You will be given some suggested reading to help you gather your thoughts and ideas.
Members can share their work inspired by the prompt in the Let's Write area of our website at any time during the month, for feedback from fellow members. We expect the writing will be works in progress rather than finished pieces.
Third Sunday of each month: Work must be uploaded by this date when Esther will go through the contributions in preparation for the Zoom meeting.
Fourth Wednesday of each month at 7.30PM: Esther will lead an hour long Zoom session where you will discuss the responses to the prompt, the feedback given and any writing problems that may arise. Don't worry if you can't make it. The session will be recorded and made available in the members area for you to watch.
Writers of all levels and experience are welcome, including beginners.

Since joining The Writers Bureau as a student in 1999, and following their advice, Esther hasn’t looked back. As well as winning several writing competitions herself, she was head judge of Writers’ Forum magazine’s monthly short story competition. Over the years, Esther has regularly had articles and short stories published in a variety of newspapers and magazines in the UK and abroad. She has published a range of writing workbooks, children’s books and short story collections.
Esther became a tutor for The Writers Bureau in 2009 and when they closed in July 2026, she knew she wasn’t ready for it to go. Fortunately, they let her continue with the website and new courses so she can support students on their writing journey.
