Let's Start Writing

Written and tutored by Esther Chilton

For beginners.

Have you always wanted to be a writer? Do you have dreams of penning a novel or writing stories for the women’s weeklies? Perhaps non-fiction writing is something that you feel is more for you. Or you may enjoy poetry and want to write it yourself.

Maybe you’re not sure what writing you want to do at this stage, but you just want to write. That’s fine. Even if you do know, you may not know where to begin. How do you start writing? What do you write about?

This course is all about getting you writing and enjoying the process.

The Course

Over the three modules, we’ll work on unlocking your imagination and starting you off on your writing journey.

The first module looks at the importance of having fun with your writing and getting your creativity going with non-fiction, including writing about happy memories and using the senses in your writing.

Next, we’ll turn to fiction and crafting stories, firstly looking at bite-size stories before moving on to longer ones.

Poetry is the focus of the final module and a few of the different ways you can express yourself in this form.

The course will finish by covering the next steps now you have started to write and where you can go from here.

Exercises And Assignments

As you go through the course, you’ll be given ideas and lots of writing exercises to try. There are also three assignments which you can send in for feedback at the end of each module.
