Writing letters gives you the chance to win some great prizes and often the Star Letter is paid for with cash. Some people use their income from writing letters for extra treats and trips away. As well as being quick and easy to write, they are a great way to build your confidence if you are new to the world of writing.

Writing articles gives you the opportunity to use your existing knowledge and experience to gain some extra income. Editors and publishers are crying out for well written articles that will be of interest to their readers. And, depending on the publication, payment can be very good.

This course will take you step by step through the process of writing letters and articles as well as how to get them published. You cover how to:

  • find ideas
  • research your articles
  • where to find markets for your work
  • analyse publications to increase your acceptance rate
  • make a pitch
  • structure your articles
  • present your typescript.

Your course includes exercises to help you practise what you learn. These also form the foundation for your three tutor-marked assignments. Your tutor – a professional writer – will give you feedback on your work and pointers on how to improve it, if improvement is necessary. By the end of your course you will have the know-how, and confidence, to start approaching editors with your work.

For the duration of your course you will have access to The Writers Bureau's Writers' Community and Zoom Study Sessions where you can meet other writers and ask questions.
