Revision Roadmap

Suitable for those who have finished the first draft of a fiction book

You’ve completed the first draft of your book. You’ve typed a satisfying ‘The End’ on the final page of your typescript. Well done, it’s a great achievement. So, now what? Print it out, pack it up and send it off to an agent or a publisher as soon as possible?

We’re sorry to tell you it’s not quite time to be running off to the post office just yet. Why not? Because no matter how accomplished the writer may be, no-one writes a saleable first draft. But don’t worry, you are now ready to go onto the next phase of the book writing process. And that’s where this course comes in. It’ll be your guide to creating a polished final piece, ready to send off for consideration.

The Course

This three-module course takes you step-by-step through the revision process.

First, you’ll look at the overall structure, plot and character development within your story. Then you’ll take a deeper dive and look at a line edit making sure your prose is refined and polished. And finally, you are told what you need check and about obtaining some reliable outside feedback for your final draft.

Your course includes three tutor-marked assignments. Your tutor – Stephanie Baudet – will give you feedback on your work and pointers on how to improve it, if improvement is necessary.
