Two-session online workshop, 1 - 1.5 hours per session, live teaching, via Zoom.

The length of the sessions varies depending on the session topic and the questions and discussions that arise. Sessions will be a minimum of one hour.

Aoife Mannix, is a former script editor for the BBC as well as having worked in the drama department of Channel 4 and for the Royal Court theatre. She is also a published poet, novelist, librettist and playwright.

Workshop Outline

Learn how to create fascinating characters and intriguing locations as well as the art of snappy dialogue so that your script jumps off the page. We will look at building up conflict, the use of subtext, and the importance of character driven plot whether you are writing for theatre, TV, radio or screen. These workshops offer a practical introduction to writing scripts.


This workshop is run by Budding Writers in partnership with The Writers Bureau.

By taking part in this workshop you will:

  • have time to ask questions as there are only ten participants per group

  • learn how to develop a character driven plot

  • find out how to write snappy dialogue

  • gain increased self-confidence to take your writing forward on your own.
