Let's Start Writing
Zoom Writing Workshop with Esther Chilton
Ideal For Beginners
Two-session online workshop, 1 - 1.5 hours per session, live teaching, via Zoom.
Since joining The Writers Bureau as a student in 1999, and following their advice, Esther hasn’t looked back. As well as winning several writing competitions herself, she was head judge of Writers’ Forum magazine’s monthly short story competition. Over the years, Esther has regularly had articles and short stories published in a variety of newspapers and magazines in the UK and abroad. She has published a range of writing workbooks, children’s books and short story collections.
Esther became a tutor for The Writers Bureau in 2009 and when they closed in July 2026, she knew she wasn’t ready for it to go. Fortunately, they let her continue with the website and new courses so she can support students on their writing journey.
The best reason to start writing is because you enjoy it. You might have dreams of penning a novel or writing stories for the women’s weeklies. Perhaps non-fiction writing is something that you feel is more for you. Maybe you’re not sure of what writing you want to do at this stage and that’s fine. Even if you do know, you may not know where to begin. How do you start writing? What do you write about?
This two-week course is all about getting you writing and having some fun with it. Over the two weeks, we’ll work on unlocking your creative juices and starting you off. You’ll be given ideas and lots of writing exercises to try, with the aim of helping you to write on a regular basis by the end of the course.
