Workshop Outline

A story changes according to who tells it. Choose the right character to be its voice and eyes and it can take flight. We will explore how the viewpoint impacts not only on the tone and feel of your writing, but also on its plot. You will discover how you can build and reduce intensity by zooming in and out of your characters’ thoughts. There will also be a discussion on the uses of first- and third-person narration.

TOPICS COVERED

  • How to decide on your story’s viewpoint.
  • Single and multiple points of view.
  • Varying the psychic distance.

This workshop is run by Budding Writers in partnership with The Writers Bureau.
